Wolves defeat the Cougars 6-1 in game one

WESSON, Miss. – The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College improved to 9-2 Saturday with a 6-1 win over the Highland Community College Cougars in game one of a 7/7 doubleheader. Co-Lin scored the six runs on just four hits.

A sacrifice fly from Austin Tidwell put the Wolves on the board in the bottom of the second. The high fly ball scored CJ Estave who led off the inning and was hit by a pitch.

Co-Lin got four more in the bottom of the third after the first two batters were walked, and a pitch hit another. With the bases loaded, Austin O'Flynn drew a walk to score one. Tidwell hit another sac fly to score one, and Tyler Vroman hit a base-clearing stand up double to left. Going into the fourth the Wolves were up 5-0.

Tidwell got yet another RBI in the fifth after a groundout scored Jaylyn Williams.

The Cougars scratched one across in the top of the sixth with an RBI single for their only score of the contest.

Christian Day led the Wolves on the mound with a dominating performance. He surrendered one run on two hits over six innings, striking out eight. Tyler Etheridge threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Quinton Matznick got the start for the Cougars and went two and a third innings, allowing five runs on one hit and striking out two. Derick Irizarry and Kyle Yonk came in from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively.

Chandler Dillard, Vroman, O'Flynn, and Thomas Slagle each managed one hit to lead the Wolves at the plate. Co-Lin ran wild on the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases.
