Wolves drop nightcap to Meridian, 8-7

MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Wolves fell to Meridian by just one in game two after the Eagles scored on a walk with the bases loaded. The 8-7 loss in game two moved the Wolves to 11-4 on the season and 0-2 in division play. Despite the loss, the Wolves scored six runs on eight hits while only committing one error in the field.

C.J. Estave drew a walk in the top of the second and scored later in the inning on a Meridian error to open up the scoring in the nightcap on Saturday.

Co-Lin stretched that lead to 2-0 in the top of the third with an RBI single from Ryan Zimmerman that plated Thomas Slagle. Slagle led off the inning with a double.

Zach Pope pushed another across for the Wolves in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to bring Co-Lin's lead to 3-0.

Meridian got one back in the bottom of the fourth and two in the bottom of the fifth after a walk and a balk tie the game at three all.

Austin Tidwell put the Wolves back on top in the sixth with an RBI single. A wild pitch scored Austin O'Flynn and a sacrifice bunt from Slagle scored Zach Pope to stretch Co-Lin's lead to 6-3 midway through the sixth.

A Co-Lin error plated one for Meridian in the bottom of the sixth, and the Eagles tied the game at six all with a triple in the bottom of the seventh. The winning run came on a walk.

Christian Day got the start and the loss for the Wolves. He went six innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out 12.

David Dunn was on the mound for the Eagles. He allowed seven hits and six runs over five and a third innings, striking out seven.

O'Flynn led the Wolves in the batter's box with two hits in two at bats. Chandler Dillard led Co-Lin with four stolen bases, as the Wolves totaled eight stolen bases in the game.
