Co-Lin sweeps pair from Holmes

WESSON, Miss. – The Co-Lin Wolves saw the ball well last weekend as the team racked up 23 hits in two wins over Holmes Community College. The 11-6 and 13-5 victories move the Wolves to 18-15 on the year, 7-13 in MACJC play, and keep the Wolves in playoff contention. Co-Lin is back at Sullivan Field on Tuesday, April 24 as the Wolves take on the Hinds Community College Eagles. Games are set for 3 and 6 p.m. and can be watched live at colinathletics.com or fans can listen to the action at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

Game One, W, 11-6

The Wolves were on the board early as Austin O'Flynn hit a double in the top of the first. The sophomore moved to third after tagging up and scored on a wild pitch to put Co-Lin on top 1-0.

Holmes struck back with a pair of RBI singles in the top of the second and took a 3-1 lead.

O'Flynn carried his momentum over as he led off the third with a solo homer to left to bring the Wolves back within one. Thomas Slagle drove in Jaylyn Williams later in the inning to knot the contest at 3-3.

The seesaw game continued in the top of the fourth with two more Bulldog runs. The groundout and RBI single gave Holmes a 5-3 advantage.

Co-Lin used the long ball again to cut into the Bulldog's lead. Zach Pope hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. Co-Lin trailed 5-4 going into the fifth.

Chandler Dillard roped a double in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead for the Wolves. The line drive to left scored CJ Estave and Slagle. Tyler Vroman followed with a groundout that plated Craig Bradley. The Wolves were up 7-5 going into the sixth.

Another RBI single from Vroman in the seventh and a three-run bomb from Estave in the bottom of the eighth grew Co-Lin's lead to 11-5. Holmes scratched one across in the top of the ninth.  

Christian Day threw a dominating game for the Wolves from the mound. The sophomore earned the win after a complete game. He allowed ten hits, six runs (three earned), and struck out 11.

O'Flynn and Estave each collected three hits to lead the Wolves at the plate.

Game Two, W, 13-5

Co-Lin's hot bats continued into the second game as the Wolves took another early lead. Holmes led 1-0 going into the bottom of the first frame, but an RBI single from CJ Estave, an RBI double from Chandler Dillard, an RBI single from Craig Bradley, and Dillard stealing home gave Co-Lin a 5-1 advantage.

Holmes fought back in the nightcap as the Bulldogs plated two in the top of the second to narrow the Wolves' lead to 5-3.

Estave continued to dominate the plate in the second inning with a triple that scored Austin O'Flynn who led off the inning with a single. The shot gave the Wolves a 6-3 lead.

Holmes stuck around with a run in both the top of the third and the top of the fourth to cut into Co-Lin's lead 6-5.

The Wolves scratched four more across in the bottom of the fourth with a sac fly from Thomas Slagle, Jaylyn Williams stole home, and a towering two-run homer from Tyler Vroman.

Co-Lin added their final three runs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI from Vroman, a passed ball, and a sac fly to solidify the 13-5 victory.

  Kyle Whittington earned the win on the mound for the Wolves. He surrendered three runs on two hits over one inning, striking out three. Anthony Clapp, Parker Lee, and Justin Hutton all put in work on the mound in relief out of the bullpen.

Bradley, Dillard, and Estave each managed two hits to lead the Wolves on the offensive end.
