Wolves fall to ICC on sophomore day

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves dropped a pair of MACJC contests on Saturday to the Indians of Itawamba Community College, 12-2, 9-5. The losses move the Wolves to 19-18 on the season and 8-16 in MACJC play while ICC improves to 28-12 and 14-10. Saturday's games were the Wolves final homestand of the 2018 season and the Co-Lin sophomores were recognized between games. The Wolves take on Pearl River Community College on Wednesday, May 2 and Mississippi Delta on Saturday, May 5 for the final games of the season.

Game one, L, 12-2 (7 innings)

Itawamba got ahead early with a run in the top of the first and another in the top of the second to lead 2-0.

An explosive top half of the fourth gave the Indians a 6-0 lead. The runs came on an RBI single and a three-run homer from Justin Medlin.

The Wolves finally got on the board in the bottom half of the fourth after Craig Bradley and Zach Pope drew walks with the bases loaded. Co-Lin trailed 6-2 going into the fifth.

Itawamba added another five runs in the top of the fifth to pull the game out of reach after two batters were hit by pitches and an RBI double.

A solo shot from Medlin, his second of the game, gave the Indians their final run in the top of the seventh.

Kris Peet was credited with the victory for ICC. He allowed one hit and two runs over three and a third innings, striking out six. Sam Harrington threw three and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Christian Day took the loss for Co-Lin after he went three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out seven.

Madison Smith led the Wolves at the plate with three hits in three at-bats.

Game two, L, 9-5

The Indians of ICC kept their hot bats going in game two with a four-run inning in the top of the first. An RBI single, a sac fly, and a two-run homer from L Siddell scored the runs.

ICC added one in the third and two more in the top of the fourth to stretch the lead to 7-0 going into the bottom of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth Jaylyn Williams led off with a walk for the Wolves. He scored later in the inning on an error to put Co-Lin on the board.

Itawamba pushed two more across in the sixth to grow the lead to 9-1.

An RBI single from Chandler Dillard and a towering three-run shot from Tyler Etheridge in the bottom of the seventh cut the lead to 9-5.

Houston Harding earned the win for ICC. He went six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out 12. Kyle Crigger and Witt Roaton entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Jordan Bowden took the loss for the Wolves. He surrendered five runs on six hits over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Williams and Austin O'Flynn each collected two hits to lead the Wolves at the plate.
