Co-Lin sweeps Frontier in Wesson

WESSON, Miss. – The Co-Lin baseball team grabbed two key wins on Saturday as the Wolves swept a pair from Frontier Community College out of Illinois, 8-1 and 11-1. The Wolves hit two homers on the day and batted .382 as a team in the wins. Co-Lin is back at Sullivan Field next Saturday, February 23 as the Wolves host Mineral Area Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.

Game One

Frontier got things started in the top of the first with an RBI single, but the lead was short lived as Co-Lin's Mark Hubbard drove in a run with an RBI single in the bottom half of the frame to knot the game at one each. Justin Johnson came across the plate later in the inning on an error to put Co-Lin up 2-1.

In the second, Co-Lin got one in on a balk and broke the game wide open in the fourth with three runs. Austin Tidwell cranked a solo shot to deep left and an error allowed Ryan Zimmerman and Johnson to score stretching the lead to 6-1.

Hubbard drove in another run in the sixth, and Co-Lin's final run came on defensive interference.

Adie Goodman got the win for the Wolves. He allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out four and walking zero. Cameron Hill threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. Hill recorded the last 12 outs to earn the save for Co-Lin.

Co-Lin racked up 11 hits in the contest. Hubbard, Josh Day, Trey Frierson, and Tidwell each collected multiple hits, while Hubbard went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team.

Game Two

Co-Lin kept the bats hot in game two as the Wolves run-ruled the Bobcats 11-1.

A bases-clearing triple from Zimmerman in the bottom of the first put the Wolves up 2-0 before a sac fly from Hubbard later in the first pushed it to 3-0.

The Bobcats scratched one across on a sac fly in the second, but Co-Lin once again scored as Thomas Slagle came home on a wild pitch.

The Wolves added another in the fifth with a towering solo homer from Zimmerman to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Co-Lin broke the game open and ran to victory in the sixth with an RBI single, triple, a pair of doubles, and help from a fielding error to secure the win.

Brandon Brown led Co-Lin victory on the mound. He surrendered one run on two hits over four innings, striking out five, while Lane Hanna threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
