Hudson, Muse power Wolves in split with Meridian

MERIDIAN – Marquez Hudson and Braydon Muse hit 3-run home runs to power the Co-Lin Wolves to a 12-7 win over the Meridian Community College Eagles. The Eagles came back take game two 3-0.  

GAME 1

Meridian took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a home run by Adam Moncure. 

The Wolves would answer in the top of the second inning. Noah Freeman's (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) RBI double to right field would score Hudson (Monticello/Lawrence County High School). Muse (Florence/Florence High School) would smash a three-run home run over the center field wall to put the Wolves up 4-2. 

After a couple of scoreless innings, the Eagles would close the gap to 4-3 on an RBI double by Banks Tolley in the bottom of the fifth. 

Meridian would tie the game at 4-all in the bottom of the sixth as the result of a Co-Lin error.

In the top of the seventh with one out, Peyton Parker (West Monroe, LA/West Ouachita High School) and Tom Biggs (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) would draw walks. Hudson would hit his fifth home run of the year to put the Wolves back on top 7-4. 

The Wolves weren't done yet. In the top of the eighth, Co-Lin picks up for more runs on Cade Lowery's (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center) double to left, Parker's double and Biggs' double as the Wolves take a 12-4 lead. 

The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom half of the eighth to close the gap 12-7.

Micah Parker (Kosciusko/Kosciusko High School) )picked up the win for the Wolves. He allowed three runs on three hits, struck out three and walked one in 2.1 innings of relief. Starter Tanner Watts (Brookhaven/Brookhaven Academy) pitched four innings. He gave up three runs on four hits, struck out three and walked none. Also seeing action on the mound were Lane Hanna (Union/Union High School one hit), Sevante Quinn (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School one strikeout in 1.1 innings), and Hunter Reinke (Terry/Copiah Academy one run, two hits, 1.1 innings)

Leading Co-Lin's 12 hit attack was Muse who had a home run and a pair of singles and three RBIs. Biggs had a double and a pair of singles and two RBIs. Hudson had a home run and a single and three RBIs. Parker had a double for two RBIs. Ben White (Natchez/Cathedral High School) had a pair of singles. Lowery and Freeman had RBI singles. 

GAME 2

In the second game, Meridian pitcher Alec Sparks kept the Co-Lin hitters guessing the entire game. He scattered seven hits, struck out nine and walked two to collect the win.

The Eagles would score one run in the third and two runs in the fourth and that's all they would need.

Absorbing the loss for Co-Lin was Peyton Parker. Parker allowed two earned runs gave up six hits, struck out 10 and walked none in six innings of work.

At the plate for the Wolves, Hudson had a pair of singles. Providing support with a single apiece were Will-Lawson Harkins (Carthage/Leake Academy), Peyton Parker, Biggs, Aiden Singley (Columbia/Columbia High School) and Wade Nichols (Brandon/McLaurin High School).
