No. 3 Pearl River sweeps No. 20 Co-Lin

POPLARVILLE – The No. 20 ranked Co-Lin Wolves could not keep up with No. 3 Pearl River Wildcats falling 12-1 in five innings in game one and 11-2 in game two.

GAME 1

The Wolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning Marquez Hudson's (Monticello/Lawrence County High School) RBI single scored Peyton Parker.

Pearl River plated four runs in the bottom of the second inning, one run in the bottom of the third, and seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to run rule the Wolves 12-1.

Four of Pearl River's 12 hits were home runs. Nick Skaggs, Tate Parker, Kasey Donaldson and Taylor Woodcock had multiple hits.

Pearl River pitcher Sam Hill only allowed three Co-Lin hits. He gave up one run (none earned), struck out four and walked none in five innings of work.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Hudson had a pair of singles. Tom Biggs (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) got the Wolves only other hit.

Absorbing the loss for Co-Lin was Tanner Watts (Brookhaven/Brookhaven Academy). He gave up five earned runs on seven hits, struck out one and walked one in 3.1 innings of work. Hunter Reinike (Terry/Copiah Academy) relieved Watts in the top of the fourth inning. He allowed seven runs (three earned) on five hits and walked one.

GAME 2

Co-Lin starter Peyton Parker held the Wildcats scoreless for the first four innings. The Wildcats exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they cruised to a 11-2 win.

Pearl River scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and another two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Wolves two runs came in the top of the sixth inning as Biggs and Hudson hit back-to-back solo home runs.

Starter Landon Gartman allowed two earned runs, scattered six hits, struck out five and walked two in 5.2 innings of work. Eric Newsom pitched the remaining 1.1 innings striking out two and walking two.

Peyton Parker absorbed the loss giving up six earned runs on four hits, striking out three in 4.1 innings of work. Also seeing action on the mound in relief were Micah Parker (Kosciusko/Kosciusko High School) who allowed two earned runs and two hits. Braxton Henley (Hattiesburg/Presbyterian Christian) who pitched .2 innings giving up one earned run on two hits, striking out one and walking one. Rhett Blackburn (Hattiesburg/Oak Grove High School) pitched an inning allowing two earned runs on two hits, struck out one in one inning of work.

Hudson led the Wolves at the plate with a home run and a single. Peyton Parker had a double and Biggs had a home run. Adding support with a single apiece were Will-Lawson Harkins (Carthage/Leake Academy) and Aiden Singley (Columbia/Columbia High School).
