No. 16 Itawamba sweeps No. 20 Co-Lin

WESSON – The No. 6 ranked Itawamba Indians swept the No. 20 ranked Co-Lin Wolves 7-5 in the opener and 5-0 in the nightcap.  

GAME 1

In top of the ninth inning, the Indians scored two runs to increase their lead to 7-4. Lane Domino hit a solo home run and Riley Davis scored on a Tyler Murphy sacrifice fly.

In the Co-Lin half of the ninth, Ben White (Natchez/Cathedral High School) led off with a walk. Will-Lawson Harkins (Carthage/Leake Academy) singled to right field. White advanced to third on a passed ball. With runners on first and third, Peyton Parker (West Monroe, LA/West Ouachita High School) lined into a double play. White scored the fifth Co-Lin run on a passed ball. Tom Biggs (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) drew a walk and was picked off at first base to end the game.

ICC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Indians would pick up a run in the third and in the top of the fourth.

Co-Lin would tie the game at four-all in the bottom of the fourth inning. White was hit by a pitch and Parker drew a walk. Biggs singled to load the bases with one out. Marquez Hudson's (Monticello/Lawrence County High School) 2-run RBI single to left field. Kenner Bizot (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center) singled to load the bases. Biggs and Hudson scored on Braydon Muse's (Florence/Florence High School) single to center field.

ICC broke the tie in the top of the fifth. Davis drew a walk and advanced to second on Murphy's sacrifice bunt. Davis moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kylan Carter's sacrifice fly to put the Indians on to 5-4.

Winning pitcher for ICC was Will Armstead. He allowed four earned runs on four hits, struck out seven and walked one in 5.1 innings of work. David Rowland relieved Armistead in the sixth. He gave up no earned runs, scattered four hits, struck out four and walked three. Brady Davis pitched the ninth inning and walked one.

Tucker Jones took the loss for the Wolves. He allowed three earned runs on four hits, struck out two and walked one in three innings of work. Starting pitcher Caleb Rutledge threw six innings giving up two earned runs on four hits, struck out nine and walked two.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Muse was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and two RBIs. Biggs 2-for-4 with a double and a single. Adding support with a single apiece were Will-Lawson Harkins, Marquez Hudson, Kenner Bizot and White.

For ICC, Riley Davis (one RBI) and Hayden Harris (two RBIs) were 3-for-4. Lane Domino had a home run. Kylan Carter added a single. Tyler Murphy had two RBIs.

GAME 2

Coleton Ausburn pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout for the Indians.

ICC took a 1-0 lead in third inning and scored two runs in the top of the sixth and seventh inning to take the 5-0 win.

Jordan Spinks suffered the loss for Co-Lin. He allowed three runs (one earned) on nine hits, struck out two and walked one in 5.1 innings.  Braxton Henley (Hattiesburg/Presbyterian Christian) relieved Spinks in the sixth. He allowed two earned runs on one hit. Micah Parker entered the game in the seventh. Parker gave up one hit and struck out one.

The Indians pounded out 11 hits led by Davis, Murphy and Carter with two hits apiece. Also hitting were Domino, Hayden Harris, Bailey Allbritton, Mack Scruggs and Drew Caponianco.

Harkins, Biggs and White were the only Wolves to get a hit.
