Jones County, Co-Lin split a doubleheader

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Bobcats and the Co-Lin Wolves split a doubleheader in MACCC action this afternoon. Jones took the opener 19-0 as they run ruled the Wolves in five innings. The Wolves bounced back to take a 3-1 win in game 2.

GAME 1

Dalton Rogers threw a one hit shutout to lead the Jones College Bobcats to a 19-0 run rule over the Co-Lin Wolves in five innings. He struck out five and walked three.

The Bobcats scored early and often as they put up five runs in the first inning, eight runs in the third and six runs in the fourth.

Leading Jones at the plate was Hunter French who went 3-for-3. Murray Hutchinson, Jesse Johnson, Kade Keeton and Chase Honeycutt all had multiple hits. Andrew Howard also collected a hit.

Co-Lin's only hit came from center fielder Will-Lawson Harkins (Carthage/Leake Academy)

The Wolves would use six pitchers in the game. Starter Tanner Watts (Brookhaven/Brookhaven Academy) took the loss for the Wolves. He allowed five runs (all earned) on three hits and walked one. Also seeing action on the mound were Rhett Blackburn (Hattiesburg/Oak Grove High School) who allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits, struck out one and walked one in two innings of work; Micah Parker (Kosciusko/Kosciusko High School) gave up five runs on one hit and walked four in .2 innings; Noah Freeman (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits and struck out one; Lance Elsen (Canton/Canton Academy) two walks; and Braxton Henley (Hattiesburg/Presbyterian Christian) gave up two runs on three hits and walked two.

GAME 2

The Wolves would bounce back in game two behind the strong pitching performance of Peyton Parker (West Monroe, LA/West Ouachita High School). Parker pitched a complete game allowing one run (none earned), scattered seven hits, struck out six and walked one in seven innings.

Co-Lin would take a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning. Harkins reached first base on an error and would steal second and would advance to third on Tom Biggs' (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) ground out. Marquez Hudson (Monticello/Lawrence County High School) followed with an RBI single to score Harkins and give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Kenner Bizot would single to center allowing Hudson to get to third. Hudson would steal home to put Co-Lin up 2-0.

Jones would plate a run in the bottom of the second inning on a Andrew Howard RBI single.

The Wolves final run came in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Hunter Estes (Purvis/Lamar Christian) to right field. Aiden Singley (Columbia/Columbia High School) singled to left to score Estes.

Leading Co-Lin at the plate was Hudson with a pair of singles. Harkins doubled and Estes tripled. Adding support with a single apiece were Singley and Bizot.

 

NEXT UP: Co-Lin (15-17, 11-9) travels to Booneville to take on the Northeast Mississippi Tigers on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
