
Wolves Drop Doubleheader Against Bulldogs
PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin Baseball team hit the road for their next MACCC doubleheader facing off against Gulf Coast on Wednesday, March 26. The Bulldogs swept the Wolves taking game one, 7-0, and game two, 4-2.
GAME ONE
The Wolves looked to get on the board first as Tucker Jones (Brandon) hit a one-out single, stole second, and advanced to third on a pop out. However, a second straight pop out ended the inning and kept the Wolves off the board. The game remained scoreless until the Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead.
The Wolves then got a two-out single by Bradley Hanlon (Monroe, LA) in the top of the fifth, but a strikeout brought the inning to an end as the Bulldogs maintained their lead. The Bulldogs then scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to push their lead to 7-0.
The Wolves then looked to get on the board in the top of the seventh as Evan Holifield (Stringer) hit a one-out double while Donovan Moore (Bude) followed with a walk to put two runners on with one out, but a strikeout followed by a fielder's choice brought the inning to an end with no scoring done. The Wolves then got a one-out single by Avery Griffin (Brookhaven), while Jones was later hit-by-pitch to put two runners on with two outs in the top of the eight, but a strikeout once again but the inning to a close with no scoring done.
The Bulldogs then retired the Wolves in order in the top of the ninth to seal the 7-0 win in game one.
The Wolves totaled four hits in the game as Tucker Jones, Evan Holifield, Bradley Hanlon, and Avery Griffin had one hit each.
Cohen Weinhofer (Ocean Springs) got the start (4-3) and pitched 4.2 innings while allowing seven runs, all earned, on five hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Tanner Blackwell (Flora) pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief allowing four hits with two walks.
GAME TWO
The second game of the day saw the Wolves take an early lead with a solo run in the top of the second as Sam Cook (Shubuta) stepped up to the plate with two outs, took one swing of the bat, and crushed a 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a solo home run.
The Wolves added a second run in the top of the second as Tucker Jones came to the plate with one out and smashed a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a solo home run to extend the lead to 2-0. That lead held until the Bulldogs hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs then hit their second two-run home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.
Reise Thomas (Florence) then hit a leadoff single in the top of the seventh, but the Wolves then hit back-to-back pop outs followed by a fly out as the Bulldogs sealed the game two win and sweep of the doubleheader.
The Wolves totaled eight hits in the game as Tucker Jones had three hits while Sam Cook had two hits with Reise Thomas, Evan Holifield, and Trey Davidson (Brandon) adding one hit each. Jones and Cook had one RBI each.
Jennings Kimbrell (Flowood) got the start (7-2) and pitched five innings allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Lucas Harrington (Youngsville, LA) pitched one inning of scoreless and hitless relief with one walk and two strikeouts.
Co-Lin is now 21-14 overall, 5-5 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Itawamba on Friday, March 28. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., at Sullivan Field in Wesson.
