Wolves travel to Holmes on Thursday

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves open the 2018 season with a road trip to Goodman on Thursday, August 30 to take on the Holmes Bulldogs. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. in Branch Stadium. Fans can watch the action live at holmesccmedia.com or listen live on WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

Co-Lin looks to be balanced on the offensive attack this season, much like last year. The Wolves racked up 1,477 passing yards and 1,663 rushing yards a year ago and with running backs, Deion Dampier (Pinola) and Rico Owens (Greenwood) returning and quarterback Hayden Davis (Madison) taking snaps these numbers could be topped in 2018.

"It always helps to have experienced guys in the backfield," said Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis. "Both of our running backs have dropped some weight in the offseason like we asked and we expect a big improvement from this pair… Hayden is another guy that has improved over the offseason and dropped some weight," noted Davis. "He has become much more mobile and his accuracy has improved."

The Wolves have several explosive options in the wide receiver corps including returning sophomores Demartre Collins (Bude) and Jalen Browder (Dallas, Ga.) Joining them are two standouts in Malik Heath (Jackson) and Kundarrius Taylor (Memphis, Tenn.)

Defensively the Wolves have become a powerhouse in the MACJC over the past several years. Last season Co-Lin led the league giving up just 273.8 yards per game including a staggeringly low 103 pass yards per game and were second in points allowed with 20.7 per game. The Wolves wrapped up 35 sacks on the year as well.

The Wolves also return some key players from last year like Swayze Bozeman (Flora) who had 42 tackles on the year, second-most on the team, and Jakaiszer Glass (Greenwood) who wrapped up 29 tackles.

"Playoffs are always the expectation for this program," said coach Davis. "We've missed out for four years now, and we are eager to get back in the hunt."
