Wolves host Pearl River in home opener

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves (1-1) host the Pearl River Community College Wildcats (0-2) for the 2018 home opener on Thursday, September 13 at 7 p.m. in Co-Lin's Stone Stadium on the college's Wesson campus. The contest serves as Co-Lin's True Blue game and fans are asked to wear blue to the game. Thursday's matchup is the 84th meeting between the Wildcats and Wolves dating back to 1934. Pearl River currently leads the all-time record 42-38-3. Co-Lin enters the contest off a big 21-7 road victory over the Northeast Tigers a week ago. The Wildcats travel to Wesson after dropping a pair of home games to Itawamba, 34-30, and to East Mississippi, 59-10. Fans that cannot make it to the game can watch the action live at colinathletics.com or on the college's Facebook page as well as listen live at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

Co-Lin looks to take advantage of every offensive possession on Thursday as the Wildcat's defense ranks last in the MACJC in points allowed with 93. Despite the points, PRCC is only tenth in the state in yards allowed with 389 per game compared to Co-Lin's average of 315 yards per game, which ranks sixth in the MACJC. Look for the Wolves to continue their healthy offensive style of a balanced rushing and passing attack as the team tries to avoid stalling on drives that result in punts. The Wolves punted the ball away eight times in last week's contest against Northeast, the most since last season's week three loss to Jones County. Last week, both Hayden Davis and Connor Mire saw action at the quarterback position and they spread the ball to nine different Co-Lin receivers for a combined 190 passing yards, while the Wolves only managed 88 rushing yards.

Defensively, the Wolves looked very solid against Northeast. Co-Lin held the Tigers to a 27 percent third-down efficiency (4-of-12) and to just 186 yards of total offense. Co-Lin also snagged two interceptions in the contest by Natrone Brooks and Harrell Blackmon. Swayze Bozeman, Tyrus Wheat, and Taijh Alston all came away with seven or more tackles, while Jordan Davis brought down six and Co-Lin's only sack.

Pearl River's offense will be led by Ron Thompson, a running back who leads the league in rushing yards with 268 yards on 34 carries. Under center for the Wildcats will most likely be Cooper Callis. Callis has thrown 289 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions. On the defensive side, Reggie Williams will lead the Wildcats. Williams has 23 tackles on the year.

Tickets to Thursday's game are $10 dollars for adults and $5 for any non-Co-Lin student and are only available at the gate. Fans can follow @colinathletics on Twitter or visit colinathletics.com for updates throughout the games and for information throughout the season.
