Wolves host Pearl River for home opener

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves are looking to ride the momentum from a week one, 41-3, win over the Southwest Bears into the team's first home matchup this Thursday, October 8 as the Pearl River Wildcats travel to H.L. Stone Stadium. The game, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m., will also serve as Co-Lin's homecoming game and will feature a court presentation at halftime. The Wildcats enter the game 0-1 after falling to Mississippi Gulf Coast a week ago, 42-25. For those that cannot attend, the game can be watched live at www.colinathletics.com/watch or on our Firestick and Roku tv channels. The game can also be heard live at WMJU 104.3 FM out of Brookhaven.

The Wolves come into the contest with a lot of energy and excitement after trouncing the Bears in the season opener. Co-Lin scored 41 unanswered points in the win and aired out four passing touchdowns between Paul Hargrave and Max Rigby. Hargrave finished the game 21-of-28 through the air with 201 yards. The rushing attack was also a factor for the Wolves as sophomore Drexlan Allen ran up 84 yards on the night. Lakenith Thompson, another sophomore, added another 61 yards and a score on the night.

Co-Lin's special teams were also stellar as Bryce Lofton was two-for-two on field goal attempts with makes from 46 and 38 yards. The impressive play landed Lofton MACCC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Defensively, the Wolves were led by a host of players, but Jamal Pye led the pack with six tackles and one and a half tackles for loss. The Wolves held the Bears to just 165 yards of total offense on the night.

Pearl River relied heavily on the passing game in their season opener with 51 attempts split between Austin Davidson and Jakob Greer. The two-quarterback system led to 275 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception, but the Wildcats ran for just 61 yards in the loss. Gulf Coast, the defending NJCAA national champions, racked up 352 rushing yards along with 305 passing yards on the way to the victory.

Overall, the Wolves match up nicely with the Wildcats and hope to continue a balanced offensive attack that gets the football in the hands of playmakers. All of Co-Lin's offensive lineman got playing time in week one, and the group looks to continue their impressive play on Thursday. Defensively, the Wolves will need to lockdown a high-flying offense, while remaining disciplined on the inside in order to defend the home turf for the first time in 2020.
