Wolves take on Warriors on sophomore night

WESSON - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves are set to square off with the East Central Community College Warriors at H.L. Stone Stadium this Thursday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. for a MACCC South Division matchup. The game, Co-Lin's second home game of the year, will also serve as the Wolves' sophomore day, which will take place prior to kickoff. The 2-0 Wolves are itching to get back on the turf after a two-week hiatus due to COVID-19 concerns. ECCC enters the game at 1-3 after falling to Mississippi Gulf Coast last week, 31-3. H.L. Stone Stadium will have a limited capacity due to the coronavirus and fans can purchase tickets at www.colinathletics.com/tickets. Those that can not attend can watch the action live at www.colinathletics.com/watch or listen to the game live at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

Despite not playing for a couple of weeks, the Wolves look to match up nicely against the Warriors of East Central. Co-Lin had a very balanced offensive attack through the first two weeks, averaging 227 passing and 111 rushing yards, while the Warriors average 149 through the air and 106 on the ground. Co-Lin has also posted five passing touchdowns to ECCC's two.

Tyquan Henderson leads the Wolves with 158 receiving yards and three scores, while Erick Rogers and Malik Jones have both posted one touchdown each.

Thus far in the 2020 season, the Wolves have run a two-quarterback system with Paul Hargrave leading the way. The left-handed sophomore is 30-for-46 on the year with three scores and 373 yards, while freshman Max Rigby is 10-for-18 with two scores and 81 yards. Drexlan Allen, a quick-footed sophomore running back, is leading Co-Lin's rushing attack with 152 yards on the year and one touchdown, while Lakenith Thompson, a power runner that often chooses to go through defenders has racked up 81 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Co-Lin's leaders are Lamar Gray, Hayden Hill, Jalen Campbell, and Xavier Curry as they have all wrapped up 10 or more tackles on the year. Jamal Pye leads defenders in tackles for loss with one and a half on the year, totalling five yards, while Kobe Windham as posted a team-best two interceptions.

Players to watch for the Warriors are quarterback Holman Edwards, who has 458 yards on 47-of-93 passing with two scores, Larry Wilson, the Warriors' leading rusher, with 163 yards on the ground, and John Hilbert, who has a team-high 17 receptions, 12 more than the next on the list, for 237 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, ECCC is led by Trenton Ladner with 36 tackles, and Michael Coats Jr., who has five sacks. Another potential impact player for the Warriors is kicking specialist Robens Beauplan, who averaged 48-yards a punt and landed five inside the 20-yard line a week ago against Gulf Coast.

Overall, the contest should be a thrilling game as Co-Lin looks to avenge a 23-18 home loss to the Warriors last season that saw a late-game comeback fall short. Pair that determination with Co-Lin's excitement to be back on the gridiron after a two-week postponement and fans will be in for a treat at H.L. Stone Stadium on Thursday night.
