Co-Lin to host Northwest MS in MACCC semifinal

WESSON, Mississippi – The NJCAA No. 4 ranked Co-Lin Wolves, MACCC South Division Co-Champions and the No. 1 seed, will host the MACCC North Divison No. 2 seed and NJCAA No. 10 ranked Northwest Mississippi Rangers on Saturday, November 11, at 2 p.m. in H.L. Stone Stadium. It is the first South Division championship for Co-Lin since 2014. The Wolves share the honor with the South's No. 2 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs who travel to Scooba to take on the East Mississippi Lions, the No. 1 seed from the North. Co-Lin received the No. 1 seed by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker as the Wolves defeated Gulf Coast 28-23 on Oct. 12.

Northwest comes into the contest against the Wolves averaging 29.4 points per game while allowing 19.7 points to their opposition. The Rangers have gained 164 first downs on the season, 76 rushing, 74 passing, and 14 via penalty. The Rangers have rushed the ball 331 times on the season for 1766 yards with 16 touchdowns for an average of 174.1 per game while allowing 72.7 rushing yards per game to their opposition. Through the air, the Rangers have completed 149 of 287 pass attempts for 2,006 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for an average of 222.9 yards per game while allowing opponents 199.4 passing yards per game. 

In terms of total offense, the Rangers average 397 yards per game and allow 272.1 to their opponents. The Rangers are 49-for-120 on third down conversions (40.8 percent), 13-for-24 on fourth down conversions on the season (54.2 percent) and have fumbled the ball 13 times on the season losing just five. Defensively, the Rangers have recovered seven fumbles and have eight interceptions on the season along with 56 tackles for loss including 16 sacks. 

            Co-Lin comes into the contest scoring 28 points per game while allowing 18 points to their opponents. The Wolves have gained 176 first downs on the season, 85 rushing, 80 passing, and 11 via penalty. The Wolves have 1,377 rushing yards on 302 attempts with 19 touchdowns for an average of 153 rushing yards per game while allowing 134.1 rushing yards to their opponents. Co-Lin has completed 158 of 258 passing attempts on the season for 1,710 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions for an average of 190 passing yards per game while allowing 159.6 yards per game. In total offense, Co-Lin averages 343 yards per game while allowing 293.7 to their opposition. The Wolves are 42-for-112 on third down conversions (38 percent) and 7-for-13 on fourth down conversions (54 percent) and have fumbled the ball 17 times losing seven. Defensively, the Wolves have recovered eight fumbles and have 10 interceptions on the season along 63 tackles for loss including 26 sacks.
