Wolves Sweep Conference Awards while Daniels Earns National Award

WESSON – For the first time this season, the Co-Lin Football team has swept the MACCC Player of the Week awards after their dominant performance against then No. 10 Northwest, 48-14, as announced by the MACCC on Tuesday, November 14. Freshman defensive back Jahron Manning (New Orleans, LA) earned the defensive award, sophomore kicker/punter Brandon Gilliam earned the special teams award, and sophomore running back Johnnie Daniels earned the offensive award.

Jahron Manning was the leader for a dominant Wolves defense that forced five turnovers throughout the game. The freshman defensive back from New Orleans, Louisiana made his impact felt on the opening kickoff as he forced a fumble giving the Wolves the chance to take the lead early. Manning also had seven total tackles throughout the game, one interception, to give him two forced turnovers during the game, and one pass breakup.

Brandon Gilliam had a solid night in the kicking and punting game for the Wolves. The sophomore kicker/punter went 2-for-3 for field goals with makes from 31 and 33 and was a perfect 6-for-6 in extra points. Gilliam averaged 32.5 yards across four punts with two going inside the 20-yard line and three resulting in fair catches while also averaging 51.9 yards across six kickoffs with one going for a touchback.

Johnnie Daniels had a career outing for the Wolves in the MACCC Semifinal win over the Rangers. The sophomore running back set a new career high in rushing yards with 163 on 14 carries and had four touchdowns for the second time this season, a mark that had never been hit before in the Glenn Davis era before this season. Daniels also had five receptions for 43 yards to give him a new career-high in all-purpose yards with 206, the first time he has ever gone over the 200-yard mark in his career. Daniels had three of his four touchdowns in the first half including a new career-long scoring rush of 88 yards.

Daniels was also named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, November 15.
