Second half run pushes Wolves to win over William Carey

WESSON, Miss. - The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College led by just five, 35-30, at halftime versus William Carey JV on Monday night, but the team outscored the Crusaders 48 to 22 in the final 20 minutes to run away with an 83-52 victory. The win moves the Wolves to 2-3 on the year. The team is on the road this Thursday, November 21 as the Wolves travel to New Orleans, La. to face the Delgado Dolphins. 

The first half of action was back and forth as neither team could find an offensive flow with very tight defensive play from both squads. The lead traded hands seven times in the opening 20 minutes before the Wolves closed out the half with an 11-5 run to take a 35-30 lead into the break. 

Co-Lin came out of the locker room with a vengeance as the team manufactured a 14-0 run. The scoring burst was highlight by seven straight points from Co-Lin's Cameron Woodall, including an alley-oop banked off the backboard from Dajon Whitworth. The push put the Wolves up by 19, 49-30, with 16:42 left in the game. 

The Wolves never looked back after the initial run in the second half as the team quickly grew the lead to more than 20 points for the remainder of the contest. 

Woodall led the Wolves in scoring with 21 points and hauled in nine rebounds. Dayquan Perkins came off the bench for the Wolves and also crashed the boards with nine rebounds and led the team with four steals. Whitworth finished the game with 13 points, while Darius Kent rounded out the top scorers with 10 points. Tyree Lomax was a leader from the point guard position with six assists. 

The Wolves shot 42 percent (31-of-74) from the floor, 26 percent (7-of-27) from three-point range, and 47 percent (14-of-30) from the free-throw line. The Crusaders shot 30 percent (18-of-61) from the floor, nine percent (2-of-23) from downtown, and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the stripe. The Wolves outrebounded the Crusaders 52 to 44 and posted 19 steals to William Carey's three.
