Wolves hold off Delgado in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves made the trip to New Orleans on Thursday night and left with an 84-71 victory over the Delgado Dolphins. The win, the third straight for Co-Lin, moves the Wolves to 3-3 on the year. Co-Lin is back in action after Thanksgiving break as the Wolves host Mississippi Delta in Mullen Gymnasium. The Dolphins started things off on fire as the team jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the opening minutes of play. The Wolves battled back throughout the first half and a pair of three-point plays from Darius Kent and Tyree Lomax put Co-Lin back in the game. The Wolves rode that momentum until the team took a 24-22 lead midway through the opening half. The action was back-and-forth for the rest of the half as the teams continued to trade baskets on both ends of the floor. At the break, the Wolves led four, 38-34. 

The Wolves came out of the locker room with a vengeance as the team quickly grew the lead to 10, 46-36. Co-Lin hung onto that large lead until Dewey Shannon went on a quick scoring burst midway through the half, and pushed the lead to 13, 56-43. The Dolphins rallied late in the contest as they cut the lead to nine, 80-71, in the final minute of play, but the offensive effort came too late as Co-Lin was already in control of the contest. 

Cameron Woodall led the Wolves with a double-double, his first of the season, with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dajon Whitworth was also solid on the offensive side of the court with 14 points. Lomax finished with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor along with a team-high five assists, while Jay Burton had a breakout game off the bench with 10 points including 2-for-4 shooting from three-point range. 

The Wolves shot 46 percent (35-of-76) from the floor, 25 percent (5-of-20) from three-point range, and 50 percent (9-of-29) from the free-throw line. The Dolphins shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the floor, 22 percent (6-of-27) from downtown, and 58 percent (7-of-22) from the stripe. The Wolves outrebounded the Dolphins 47 to 25 and capitalized on Delgado's 28 turnovers.
