Wolves crush Drillers, 137-70, in second semester opener

WESSON, Miss. - The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College ran away with a victory on Monday night as the team poured in 73 points in the second half alone to defeat the CMP Prep Academy Drillers 137-70. The win moves Co-Lin to 5-5 on the year going into MACJC South Division play. Co-Lin is on the road this Thursday, January 9 as the team travels to Perkinston to take on the undefeated, 8-0, Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs. The CMP Drillers hung around early in the contest on Monday night as the team hit several early three-pointers. Nine minutes into the contest the Wolves took the lead 26-25 with a second-chance layup from Je'Kevious Williams and never surrendered the lead again. The basket was a start to a 31-2 run that lasted nearly the rest of the first half. The huge offensive rush saw big baskets from Cameron Woodall, TJ Monroe, and Dajon Whitworth. Midway through the game, the Wolves led 64-42. 

The second half was much of the same, except with better Co-Lin defense as the Wolves outscored the Drillers 73 to 28 through the final 20 minutes. The scoring discrepancy came from stellar shooting on Co-Lin's end of the court with the Wolves shooting 50 percent from three-point range and 59 percent from the floor down the stretch.

Co-Lin had several notable performances with seven players scoring double-digits. Woodall finished with a team-high 26 points, while JD Allen came off the bench to net 22. Williams finished with 15, Whitworth with 13, Demarcus Ellzey with 12, and Tyree Lomax with 10. Monroe posted the Wolves only double-double as he led the squad the rebounds and finished with 11 points and 13 boards.

Darnell Dustin led CMP Prep with 16 points, while Reginald Talver posted six rebounds. 

The Wolves shot 58 percent (55-of-95) from the floor, 42 percent (14-of-33) from three-point range, and 65 percent (13-of-20) from the free-throw line. The Drillers shot 32 percent (24-of-75) from the floor, 32 percent (15-of-47) from downtown, and 64 percent (7-of-11) from the stripe. The Wolves outrebound the Drillers 65 to 33 and posted 12 steals.
