Wolves Drop Contest Against Bobcats

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team continued their season opening road trip with a contest against Jones College on Thursday, November 5. The Bobcats beat the Wolves by a final of 92-84.

 

The opening minutes of the game saw the Bobcats go on a 12-4 scoring run to hold that lead with just over 15 minutes left in the first half. The Wolves responded with a 19-13 scoring run over the next several minutes to cut the Bobcats lead down to 25-23 with just under nine minutes remaining in the half. The Wolves then proceeded to gain their first lead with 6:19 left at 27-26 while the teams then began trading baskets and leads for the next few minutes until the game was tied at 36 apiece with 2:20 remaining in the half. The Bobcats closed out the first half with an 8-1 scoring run to take a 44-37 lead to the locker rooms at halftime.

 

The Bobcats took the opening minutes of the second half and extended their lead to 63-51 with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Wolves responded with a 10-0 scoring run over the next two minutes to cut the Bobcats lead to 63-61 with 13:02 left, while the Bobcats responded and extended to the lead to 73-63 with 9:29 remaining. The Wolves responded with a frenzied offensive attack and cut the lead down to 77-73 behind a 10-4 scoring run with 3:32 left; however, the Bobcats responded with 15-11 scoring run down the stretch to secure their 92-84 win.

 

Sophomore guard Lerenzo Fort III (Jackson) led the Wolves in points with 26 to go along with seven rebounds and three assists, while sophomore guard Kedarius Stampley (Fayette) had a double-double on the night with 23 points and 12 rebounds along with three assists and led the team in steals with four. Sophomore center Cole Chapman (White Bear Lake, Minn.) added ten points and eight rebounds while sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) also hit double-digit points with ten to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

 

Sophomore forward Kareeme Davis (Trenton, N.J.), sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven), and freshman guard Constantine Morant (Hancock) had four points apiece, and freshman guard Grevaughn Goodman (Miami, Fla.) had three points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

 

The Wolves are now 0-2 on the season and return to action with a road game against Hinds on Monday, November 8. The action on Earl Joe Nelson Court at J.D. Boyd Gym will tipoff at 6 p.m., in Utica.
