Wolves Offensive Explosion Leads to Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team faced off in non-conference action against East Central on Monday, November 22. In a tale of two halves, the Wolves used an explosive effort in the second half and overcame a halftime deficit to earn a 77-65 win over the Warriors.

The first half began with the Wolves opening the game on a 5-0 scoring run in the opening minute, but then the play turned sloppy for the Wolves as the Warriors went on a 12-4 scoring run over the next few minutes as they grabbed a 12-9 lead with 14 and a half minutes left. The Wolves then responded with a 9-5 scoring run to take an 18-17 lead with just under ten minutes remaining in the half. The Wolves increased their lead with an 11-5 scoring run and led the Warriors 29-22 with four and a half minutes remaining, while the Warriors then closed out the first half on a 15-4 scoring run to take a 37-33 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The first half saw the Wolves commit 18 turnovers, while the second half was a different story as better ball security and superb defense led to an offensive explosion. The Wolves and Warriors both added seven points to their scores in the opening minutes as the Warriors held on to their lead at 44-40 with just over 15 minutes remaining. The Wolves then responded with a 15-9 scoring run over the next six minutes to take a 55-53 lead with around nine minutes left in the game. The Wolves never relinquished their lead after that point as they continued to increase the lead with a 16-4 scoring run making the score 71-57 with just over four minutes to play. Despite being outscored by the Warriors, 8-6, over the final minutes the Wolves secured their 77-65 victory to earn their second win of the season.

Sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) led the Wolves offensively with 25 points to go along with nine rebounds, one assist, and two steals, while sophomore guard Kedarius Stampley (Fayette) was a spark off the bench as he posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Kareeme Davis (Trenton, N.J.) also hit double digit scoring with 11 points paired with eight rebounds, one assist, and one block.

Freshman guard Grevaughn Goodman (Miami, Fla.) added nine points, sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) added eight points with a team leading three assists, sophomore guard Cameron Butler added six points, and sophomore forward Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) added five points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

The Wolves are now 2-4 on the season and will return to action with a road contest against Northeast Mississippi in non-conference play on Monday, November 29. Tip-off at Bonner Arnold Coliseum is set for 6 p.m.
