Wolves Lead Wire-to-Wire in Win over Jaguars

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to Southern University-Shreveport on Friday, December 10. The Wolves beat the Jaguars by a final of 91-82.

The opening minutes of the first half saw the Wolves go on an early 12-5 scoring run to hold a seven-point advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining. The Wolves extended their lead to 30-15 with just over five minutes remaining with an 18-10 scoring run. While the Jaguars battled back and outscored the Wolves, 16-12, over the final minutes of the half; however, the Wolves still held an 11-point advantage, 42-31, heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

The second half featured the two opponents trading baskets with the Jaguars outscoring the Wolves, 10-8, over the opening five minutes. However, the Wolves still held a nine-point lead, 50-41, with just over 15 minutes left in the game. The Wolves responded with a 14-12 scoring run to increase their lead to 64-52 with nine minutes remaining. The Jaguars continued to fight and claw their way back into the game as they once again countered the Wolves with a 13-11 scoring run to cut the lead down to 75-65 just under five minutes to go in the game. Despite having their lead cut down to five points over the closing minutes, the Wolves were able to hold off the Jaguars down the stretch to secure the 91-82 victory.

Sophomore guard Lerenzo Fort III (Jackson) led the way and all scorers for the Wolves with 29 points. Trey also added in five rebounds with one assist and one steal during the contest, while sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) added 14 points with four rebounds, one assist, and a team-leading three steals. Sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) had 13 points with four rebounds, one assist, and one steal and sophomore guard Kedarius Stampley (Fayette) added ten points and five rebounds.

Freshman guard Constantine Morant (Hancock) had eight points while sophomore guard Cameron Butler (Vicksburg) added six points and led the team in rebounds with ten. Sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) and sophomore center Cole Chapman (White Bear Lake, Minn.) had four points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves. Chapman also led the team in blocks with two while Hersey added one block with both contributing six rebounds apiece.

The Wolves are now 3-6 overall and will return to action with a home game against Baton Rouge on Monday, January 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Mullen Gymnasium.
