Wolves Drop Overtime Thriller to Bobcats

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to Jones College on Thursday, January 13 in conference play. The Wolves used a big second half to force overtime but came up just short of the win as the Bobcats took the contest, 90-87.

The Wolves got off to a slow start in the opening minutes of the first half as the Bobcats jumped out to a 13-7 lead with 16 minutes left to play. The Wolves continued to fight throughout the next few minutes cutting the lead down to 15-13 with just over 11 minutes remaining thanks to an 8-0 scoring run. However, the Bobcats responded with a 26-13 scoring run to increase their lead to 41-26 with just over four minutes left in the first half. The Wolves closed out the half with an 8-5 scoring run, but the Bobcats held a 43-34 lead going into the locker rooms at halftime.

The opening minutes of the second half saw the Wolf Pack and Bobcats trade baskets while the Bobcats maintained their eight-point advantage with the score sitting at 53-45 with just under 15 minutes remaining. The Wolf Pack went on a 13-9 scoring run over the next few minutes to cut the lead down to 62-58 with ten minutes of play left in the second half. However, the Bobcats responded with a 15-9 scoring run to increase their lead to ten points, 77-67, with just over four minutes remaining in the second half. The Wolf Pack closed out the half with a 12-2 scoring run including game-tying free throws with five seconds left by sophomore Lerenzo Fort III (Jackson) and the Bobcats final shot of regulation was no good sending the game into overtime tied at 79-79.

In the overtime, the Bobcats outscored the Wolf Pack, 11-8, to clinch the 90-87 win.

Trey Fort had a big offensive night for the Wolf Pack as he led all scorers in the contest with 30 points. Trey also added four rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three blocks. Sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) posted double digit rebounds for the second consecutive game as he came down with 12 boards to go along with 17 points, four assists, and one block. Sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) had 11 points with two rebounds and four assists, while sophomore forward Kareeme Davis (Trenton, N.J.) had ten points with eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

Sophomore guard Kedarius Stampley (Fayette) had nine points while sophomore guards Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) and Cameron Butler (Vicksburg) added four points each. Butler led the Wolf Pack with six assists during the contest. Freshman guard Grevaughn Goodman had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolf Pack.

Co-Lin is now 4-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play and will return to action hosting East Mississippi on Saturday, January 15. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., at Mullen Gym.
