Wolves Falter Late Against East Mississippi

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to East Mississippi in conference action on Saturday, January 15. A strong second half surge led the Lions to an 85-76 win over the Wolves.

The opening minutes of the first half saw the Lions and the Wolves trade baskets and leads, but ultimately the Wolves held an 8-5 lead with just under 15 minutes left in the first half. The teams continued to trade baskets with the Wolves holding on to their lead; however, the Lions would gain the lead at 18-13 with just under nine minutes remaining. The Wolf Pack fought back and responded with a 13-8 scoring run to tie the game at 26-26 with around five minutes of play left in the half. The Wolf Pack then used a 13-10 scoring run to close out the first half and take a 39-36 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The opening minutes of the second half once again saw the teams trading baskets and leads, but the Wolf Pack held a 54-50 lead with 14 minutes left to play. The Wolf Pack grew the lead to seven points, but the Lions responded with a 19-12 scoring run over the next few minutes to take a 69-66 lead with six minutes remaining in the game. The Wolf Pack tied the game down the closing stretch, but the Lions used a 16-10 scoring run to earn the 85-76 win.

Sophomore guard Lerenzo Fort II (Jackson) logged his second consecutive 30+ point game of the week as he led all scorers with 35 points. Fort also had two rebounds, four assists, and one steal during the contest. Freshman guard Grevaughn Goodman (Miami, FL) added 15 points with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal while sophomore forward AJ Warnsley added nine points with five rebounds and one assist.

Sophomore guards Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) and Kedarius Stampley (Fayette) added six points apiece. Hersey added five rebounds and one block while Stampley added two rebounds, one assist, and one block during the contest. Sophomore center Robert Finklea (Biloxi) added had three points and sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 4-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Wolves will return to action on the road against Mississippi Delta in conference action on Tuesday, January 18. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at J.T. Hall Coliseum.
