Wolves Drop Contest to Tigers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, January 20. The Tigers beat the Wolves by a final of 92-72.

The opening minutes of the first half saw the Wolf Pack and Tigers trade baskets and leads with the game being tied 13-13 with about 14 minutes remaining. The scoring continued at a brisk pace for both teams, but the Wolves held a narrow, 27-25 lead with just over eight minutes left in the first half. However, the Tigers responded with a 10-4 scoring run to take a 35-31 lead with under four minutes to play. The Tigers used another big scoring run, 11-6, to close out the first half and take a 46-37 lead over the Wolves into the locker room at halftime.

The Wolf Pack used the opening minutes of the second half to go on a 14-9 scoring run and cut the Tigers lead to 55-51 with 15 minutes left in the game. However, the Tigers responded with a 17-10 scoring run over the next few minutes increasing their lead to 72-61 with just under ten minutes left to play. The Tigers closed out the game with a 20-11 scoring run to seal the 92-72 win.

Sophomore guard Lerenzo Fort, III (Jackson) had another big offensive night for the Wolf Pack as he led all scorers with 31 points. Trey also added in four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) had 13 points with four rebounds and one steal while sophomore guard Cameron Butler (Vicksburg) added ten points with three rebounds and one assist.

Sophomore center Cole Chapman (White Bear Lake, Minn.) had seven points with five rebounds and two assists while freshman guard Grevaughn Goodman had four points with a team-leading six assists and one steal. Sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) had three points while sophomore center Robert Finklea (Biloxi) and sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) added in two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves. Warnsley also had a team high six rebounds.

The Wolves are now 5-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play and will return to action with a road contest against Pearl River on Monday, January 24. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at Marvin R. White Coliseum.
