Wolves Come Up Short Against Tigers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to Coahoma in conference play on Thursday, January 27. The Tigers beat the Wolves by a final of 88-77.

The opening minutes of the first half saw the Wolves go on a 14-5 scoring run to take a lead by that score with around 14 minutes remaining. Despite a strong effort by the Tigers in the middle portion of the first half, the Wolves maintained their lead at 32-23 with eight minutes of play left. The Tigers closed out the first half with an 18-13 scoring run, but the Wolves held the lead at 45-41 heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

The opening minutes of the second half saw the Wolves go on a 12-11 scoring run to extend their lead to 57-52 with 15 minutes left to play in the game. The Tigers used an 12-3 scoring run to take their first lead of the game at 64-60 with just under nine minutes remaining. The Wolves continued to fight through the quarter but could not regain the lead as the Tigers closed out the game on a 24-17 scoring run to earn the 88-77 win.

Sophomore guard Lerenzo Fort III (Jackson) led the Wolves offensively with 28 points. Trey also had three rebounds, three steals, and two blocks throughout the contest. Sophomore guard Cameron Butler (Vicksburg) added 15 points with two rebounds, three assists, and one steal while sophomore forward Kareeme Davis (Trenton, N.J.) had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Sophomore center Cole Chapman (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and freshman guard Grevaughn Goodman (Miami, Fla.) had five points apiece. Chapman also had five rebounds with one assist while Goodman had one rebound with three assists. Sophomore guards Kedarius Stampley (Fayette), Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven), and Jordan Marshall (Raymond) had four points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 5-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The Wolves will return to action with a road contest against East Central on Monday, January 31. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium
