Wolves Stumble Against Eagles

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to Meridian on Thursday, January 10. The Eagles beat the Wolves by a final of 88-72.

The Eagles used the opening minutes of the first half to jump out to a 10-6 lead with 15 minutes of play remaining. However, the Wolves used a 14-12 scoring run to cut the Eagles lead down to 22-20 with just under nine minutes left in the half. The Eagles closed out the half with a 15-7 scoring to take a 37-27 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Eagles opened the second half with a 19-10 scoring run to increase their lead to 56-37 with just under 15 minutes of play left in the game. The Wolves outscored the Eagles, 35-32, over the remaining time of the second half but the Eagles kept the Wolves from cutting deep into the lead and secured the 88-72 win.

The Wolves had four players hit double-digit scoring figures as sophomore guard Lerenzo Fort III (Jackson) led the way. Trey led all scorers with 31 points along with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomore guard Kedarius Stampley (Fayette) had 17 points with five rebounds and one block while sophomore guard Jemario Hersey had 11 points with four rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block. Sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds along with one assist. Freshman guard Grevaughn Goodman (Miami, Fla.) had two points and sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) had one point to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 6-14 overall and 3-9 in conference play. The Wolves will return to action with a road game against Gulf Coast on Monday, January 14. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m.
