Wolves Drop Game Against East Central in Region 23 Tournament

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to East Central in a Region 23 Tournament play-in game on Saturday, February 26. The Wolves lost to the Warriors by a final of 90-85.

The opening minutes of the first half featured both teams trading baskets throughout as the Wolves ultimately held a 10-7 lead with just over 15 minutes of play left. The Warriors used a 10-9 scoring run over the next few minutes to cut the Wolves lead down to 19-17 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half. A 16-14 scoring run by the Warriors tied the game at 33-33 with close to five minutes left in the half while the Wolves then closed out the half on a 10-6 scoring run to take a 43-39 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Wolves used the opening minutes of the second half to extend their lead as they went on a 12-8 scoring run to make the score 55-47 with just under 17 minutes of play remaining in the game. The Warriors then went on a 17-9 scoring run to tie the game at 64-64 with ten minutes left in the second half. A 16-11 scoring run by the Warriors gave them an 80-75 lead with just over four minutes left. The Wolves used a furious and frenzied comeback throughout the remainder of the game but could only get within three points of the Warriors lead as they closed out the game and sealed the 90-85 win.

Sophomore guard Lerenzo Fort III (Jackson) led the way for the Wolves in the game as Trey had 33 points, leading all scorers, with four rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) had a third straight double-double as he finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds, leading all players, two steals, and one block while sophomore guard Cameron Butler (Vicksburg) had 10 points with four rebounds,a game-leading eight assists, and one steal.

Sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) had nine points with eight rebounds, and three assists, while sophomore guard Kedarius Stampley (Fayette) had seven points with one rebound, and a team-leading three steals. Sophomore center Robert Finklea (Biloxi) had six points with two rebounds and one block, sophomore guard Jordan Marshall (Raymond) had four points with four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore center Cole Chapman (White Bear Lake, Minn.) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin finishes the 2022 season with an overall record of 6-17 and 3-11 in conference play.
