Wolves Drop Pair of Contests in Season Opening Road Trip

NICEVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team opened the season participating in the Northwest Florida Tournament playing two games in back-to-back days. The Wolves lost their first game against defending national champions and No. 1 Northwest Florida, 82-79, in overtime on Friday, November 5 and then lost to Gulf Coast State, 91-82, on Saturday, November 6.

Game One

The Wolves and Raiders fought back and forth throughout the first half play as the game was tied at 33-33 as the buzzer sounded for halftime.

The two teams then played stride-for-stride and matched point-for-point throughout the second half as both scored 39 points in the half to keep the game tied at 72-72 forcing overtime. In the overtime period, the Raiders outscored the Wolves, 10-7, to secure the 82-79 win.

The Wolves saw four players hit double-digit scoring as sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) led all scorers with 24 points and led the Wolves with nine rebounds to go along with two assists, two steals, and one block. Sophomore guards Cowandric Samuel (Jackson), Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven), and Jahvon Smith (Hallandale, FL) had 16, 12, and 11 points respectively.

Freshman forward Dylan Canoville (Plantation, FL) had nine points, sophomore forward Kaeden Laws (Southaven) had five points, and sophomore guard Andrew Anderson (Hattiesburg) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Game Two

The Wolves faced a double-digit deficit after the Commodores outscored them, 42-30, to hold that lead as the teams went into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves came out in the second half and outscored Gulf Coast State, 51-50, but could not overcome the large deficit as the Commodores secured a 92-81 win.

The Wolves once again had four players hit double-digit scoring as AJ Warnsley also again led the team with 19 points along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sophomore guards Jahvon Smith, Jemario Hersey, and Andrew Anderson had 15, 13, and 12 points respectively. Freshman forward Canoville added nine points and led the team in rebounds with 12 while sophomore guard Cowandric Samuel added eight points and led the team in assists and steals with seven and three respectively. Sophomore forward Kaeden Laws added three points and freshman forward Jabez Blaylock (Newton) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is 0-2 overall and return to action for their home opener on Monday, November 7, against Delgado. The action between the Wolves and the Dolphins tips off at 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
