Wolves Dominate Delgado For First Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to Delgado for their home opener on Monday, November 7. The Wolves led wire-to-wire in a dominant win over the Dolphins, 99-62.

In the first period the teams traded baskets early on, but the Wolves were able to take the lead and ran away from the Dolphins late in the period as they ended the first 20 minutes of play with a 41-26 lead.

The Wolves came out in the second period and never relented as they dominated the Dolphins in every phase of the game and never looked back or relinquished the lead. The Wolves outscored the Dolphins, 58-36, over the second 20 minutes of play to secure the 99-62 win.

For the third straight game, the Wolves had four players hit double-digit scoring with two of the four also posting double doubles on the night. Sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) led the team and all scorers with 22 points and had 10 rebounds while sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jahvon Smith (Hallandale, FL) and freshman forward Dylan Canoville (Plantation, FL) had 13 and 10 points respectively while Canoville also added in seven rebounds including five offensive rebounds to his night.

Sophomore guard Cowandric Samuel (Jackson) had nine points, freshman forward Chandler Hodges (Mathiston) had eight points, sophomore forward Kaeden Laws (Southaven) had seven points, sophomore guard Andrew Anderson (Hattiesburg) had six points plus a team leading and game high nine assists, freshman guard Deandre Brisco (Indianola) had five points, while freshmen forwards Jabez Blaylock (Newton) and Mike Smith (New Albany) had three points with freshman guard Anterrian Hawkins (Hollandale) adding two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

As a team, the Wolves made 33 of 70 shots for a 47.1 shooting percentage and were 28 for 38 from the free throw line for a percentage of 73.7 while also outrebounding the Dolphins, 43-35, and had 18 assists with just 10 turnovers.

"This game was a total team win for us where we got contributions for our veteran sophomores as well as our freshmen," stated Co-Lin head coach David Sanders. "Delgado is a tough team and I think this win is a good sign for how the rest of the season can go for us."

Co-Lin is now 1-2 overall and will return to action against Lawson State Community College on Saturday, November 12. Tip-off between the Cougars and the Wolves is set for 4:00 p.m., in Birmingham, Alabama.
