Wolves Coast To Third Straight Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to action on Tuesday, November 15 hosting Baton Rouge. The Wolves overcame a sluggish start and then pulled away for an 84-59 victory over the Bears.

"To the fans this seemed like a great game, but for us as coaches this was nerve wracking because of the lack of consistency throughout the game," stated Co-Lin head coach David Sanders. "We had some stretches that were really good and some stretches that were really bad and developing consistent play from our guys is one thing that we are working on and constantly talking to them about during practices and meetings."

The Bears got the better of the Wolves in the opening minutes of the first half as they opened the game on a 12-9 scoring run to hold that lead with just over 16 minutes of play left. However, the Wolves responded with a 20-7 scoring run over the eight minutes to hold a 29-19 lead with close to eight minutes remaining in the half. The Wolves then flexed their muscles in a show of dominant force while closing out the first half on a 23-13 scoring run to take a 52-32 lead to the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves used the opening minutes of the second half to go on a 13-7 scoring run to push their lead to 65-36 with just under 16 minutes of play left in the game. The Bears used the next six minutes to go on a 10-5 scoring run to cut into the Wolves lead, but the score stood at 71-46 with just under ten minutes remaining. The final two minutes saw the Bears and the Wolves match scoring numbers as both teams added 13 points to their totals. However, the Wolves never had less than a 17-point lead down the stretch as they secured the 84-59 victory for their third straight win after dropping the first two games of the season.

The Wolves had five players hit double-digit scoring in the game as sophomore forward Kaeden Laws (Southaven) led all scorers with 18 points to go along with six rebounds and one steal. Sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) and sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) had 15 points each while sophomore guard Jahvon Smith (Hallandale, FL) had 13 points. Freshman forward Dylan Canoville provided a big spark off the bench as he recorded his second straight double-double performance of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

"Kaeden Laws had a really good game during our last one on the road at Lawson State where he had 28 for us and he is starting to get things going early in the season," added Sanders. "Jemario Hersey is playing great ball right now and the strength of our team is that we spread the scoring out as we have four or five players that are averaging double digits for us."

Sophomore guard Andrew Anderson (Hattiesburg) had four points, freshman guard Anterrian Hawkins (Hollandale) had three points while freshman guard Deandre Brisco (Indianola) and sophomore guard Cowandric Samuel (Jackson) had two points each. Samuel led the Wolves in assists with eight.

Co-Lin improves to 3-2 overall and will return to action on the road against Delgado on Thursday, November 17. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Dolphins is set for 6:30 p.m., in New Orleans, LA.
