Samuel, Canoville, and Warnsley Power Wolves to Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team faced off against MACCC opponent East Central on Monday, February 6. The Wolves used a second half offensive explosion to overcome a first half deficit and beat the Warriors, 100-83, for their fifth straight win in conference play.

The Wolves took an early lead against the Warriors in the first half; however, the Warriors responded with red hot shooting to take the lead away from the Wolves. The Warriors grew the lead and looked to run away from the Wolves, but the Wolves fought back and cut the Warriors lead down to 44-41 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves came out and dominated both end of the court in the second half as they used a strong defensive performance to propel a 59-point second half. The Wolves also held the Warriors to 39 points in the second half completing the comeback effort with a 20-point swing by turning a three-point halftime deficit into a 17-point win.

The Wolves had three players with double-double performances in the game as sophomore guard Cowandric Samuel (Jackson), sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) and freshman forward Dylan Canoville (Plantation, Fla.) had big nights leading the team to the win. Canoville led the team in both points and rebounds with 24 and 16 respectively along with two assists and one steal while Warnsley had 18 points and 10 rebounds with two assists and one block. Samuel narrowly missed a triple-double performance as he had 21 points, a team-leading 13 assists, and seven assists along with one steal and three blocks.

Sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) had 20 points along with two rebounds and three assists while sophomore forward Kaeden Laws (Southaven) just missed a double-double performance with 15 points and eight rebounds along with three assists. Sophomore guard Andrew (Hattiesburg) had two points with five assists to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 12-5 overall, 6-2 in conference play, and return to action with a road game against Hinds on Thursday, February 9. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m., at J.D. Boyd Gym in Utica.
