Wolves Win Thriller Against Northwest for Tenth Straight Win

SENATOBIA – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to action with a road game against Northwest Mississippi on Thursday, February 24. The Wolves overcame a slow start to the game as they outlasted the Rangers, 82-80, to extend their season long winning streak to 10 games.

The Rangers opened the game with a 19-14 scoring run to hold the lead by that margin with 14:37 left to play. The Wolves responded with a 14-9 scoring run to tie the game at 28-28 with 7:31 remaining in the first half. The Wolves and Rangers then matched scoring outputs with nine points each to keep the game tied at 37-37 with 3:06 left in the half. Once again, the teams matched scoring totals to close out the half with six points each to stay tied at 43-43 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves opened the second half with 7-4 scoring run to hold a 50-47 lead with 16:27 left to play. The Wolves then used an 8-6 scoring run to extend their lead to 58-53 at the 12:08 mark. The Rangers responded with a 13-8 scoring run to tie the game once again, this time at 66-66, with 6:31 remaining in the game. The Rangers then seized momentum with a 14-7 scoring run to take an 80-73 lead with 2:33 left to play. However, the Wolves scored seven unanswered points in the next two minutes to tie the game at 80-80 with just 33 seconds left in the game with sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) making the game-tying layup. The Rangers then missed a potential go-ahead shot as freshman forward Dylan Canoville (Plantation, FL) grabbed the defensive rebound with 18 seconds left leading to a missed game-tying shot from sophomore guard Andrew Anderson (Hattiesburg). However, sophomore forward AJ Warnsely (Byram) nabbed the offensive board and hit the put back shot to give the Wolves an 82-80 lead with three seconds remaining. The Wolves sealed the win as the potential game-winning three-point shot was missed by the Rangers as time expired.

Dylan Canoville had another huge game for the Wolves with his fourth straight double-double performance as he once again led all players in points and rebounds with 27 and 17 respectively. Jemario Hersery along with fellow sophomore guard Cowandric Samuel (Jackson) had 16 points each while Hersey added six rebounds and one assist with Samuel adding six rebounds with a team-leading give assists. Both Hersey and Samuel led the Wolves in steals with three.

AJ Warnsley narrowly missed a double-double performance with 10 point and nine rebounds while freshman forward Mike Smith (New Albany) had six points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 17-5 overall, 11-2 in conference play. The Wolves will wrap up the 2022-23 regular season with a road match against Meridian on Saturday, February 25 at 3 p.m.
