Wolves Rout Jaguars for Sixth Straight Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to action hosting Southern University-Shreveport on Saturday, December 7. The Wolves led wire-to-wire in a 98-86 win against the Jaguars to win their season high winning streak to six games.

"This was a grind it out win for us," said Co-Lin head coach David Sanders. "I thought that we came out with energy to start and hit a rough spot defensively before the half, but we were able to score enough points to get the win."

The Wolves opened the game with the first nine points unanswered holding a 9-0 lead with 17:52 left to play. The Wolves then went on a 20-11 scoring run to extend their lead to 29-11 with 13:31 left on the clock in the first half. The Jaguars fought their way back in the game with a 25-16 scoring run, but the Wolves still held the lead at 45-36 with 5:55 remaining. The Jaguars continued to cut into the lead as they closed out the first half with a 15-12 scoring; however, the Wolves still held the lead at 57-51 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves opened the second half with an 11-4 scoring run growing their lead to 68-55 with 14:49 left on the clock. The Jaguars continued to fight their way back in the game as they responded with a 14-10 scoring run to cut the Wolves lead down to 78-69 with 7:01 left to play. The Wolves responded with an 13-11 scoring run pushing their lead to 91-80 with 2:50 remaining. The Wolves then closed out the game with a 7-6 scoring run to secure the 98-86 victory.

The Wolves had four players in double-digit scoring figures and were led offensively by Deven Bates (Jackson) with 26 points and eight rebounds with four assists and four steals while Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) posted a double-double performance with 18 points and ten rebounds. Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario) had 15 points with three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks while Kesean Shields (Atoka, OK) had 15 points with six assists and three rebounds.

Jayden Jackson (Camden) had eight points with seven rebounds with Javian Watkins (Jackson) adding six points and Chris Stephens, Jr. (Byram) had four points. Demarion Terry (Edwards), Fred Gray, Jr. (Belzoni), and Zach Thompson (Hattiesburg) had two points apiece to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 7-4 overall and will return to action for one more game before Christmas Break as they host Hinds on Thursday, December 12. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
