Golf team jumps four spots on day two to finish 7th

GULFPORT, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College golf team made a big move on the second, and final day of the MGCCC Fall Invitational on Tuesday. The Wolves fired a 299 on the day, second lowest team score of the second round, to jump to a seventh-place finish with a two-day total of 615. 13 teams competed in the event, five of which were MACJC schools. The Wolves finished fourth among MACJC programs. John A. Logan College earned the team victory with a 592, while Gulf Coast earned the top spot for MACJC teams with a 593.

"Windance C.C. is a tricky course, and on the second day we thought our way around the course better and the scores showed it," said Co-Lin head coach Craig Hennington.  "Your misses better be in the right spots at Windance or you can make a big number fast. To shoot the second best score the second day of all the teams shows that we can compete."

Lucas Brewer led the Wolves with a 146 on the tournament. The sophomore shot a 76 to open the tournament, but fired off a two-under round of 70 on the second day to finish tied for fifth individually. Brewer's round of 70 tied for second lowest in the entire field and landed him All-Tournament Team honors.

Logan Pitts also had a nice turnaround on the second day firing a 71, 10 less than opening round 81. Pitts finished tied for 20th overall with a 152.

Adam Files carded a 156, Garrett Herring shot a 161, Cameron Little posted a 165, and Bryson Jones rounded out the Wolves with a 175.

"Logan Pitts has been the most consistent player for us this fall, but Lucas Brewer has become the leader of our team," said Hennington. "He is gaining confidence in his game and is starting to see that he can compete with anyone...to finish in the top five in a tournament with 13 of the best two-year schools in the country is a great accomplishment. It's great to finish the fall season on a positive note."

The tournament closed Co-Lin's fall action, and the Wolves will be back on the course for the fourth event of the year at Northwood Country Club in Meridian on March 18, 2019.
