Brewer and Jones both shoot 79 to open NJCAA tournament

PLYMOUTH, Ind. - The weather was a major factor in the opening round of the NJCAA DII Men's National Tournament at Swan Lake Resort on Monday as Co-Lin's Lucas Brewer and Bryson Jones both carded +7 (79). The tournament started with a three-hour rain delay in the opening hours of the round. The rain helped bring the temperature down to 43°F with winds consistently howling at 20 plus miles per hour throughout the afternoon. The finish puts the two Wolves tied in 67th place as individuals in the field of over 130 golfers from across the country. The tournament, unlike the regular season events, is four rounds which give the pair plenty of time leave their mark on the challenging par 72 course.

Brewer dropped two shots early in the day as the weather was hitting Swan Lake. A double on No. 6 pushed Brewer to four over, but back-to-back birdies on seven and eight helped the sophomore make the turn. Brewer battled throughout the second nine and closed out the round with two more birdies on the last three holes to finish seven over on the day.

Jones also faced a difficult start in the opening round as he was six over through six holes. Jones, did not let the challenging start hinder him as he bounced back with a 37 on the back nine to finish with a 79.

Both players are back in action today as Brewer tees off at 2:33 p.m. (ET) while Jones goes off at 2:42 p.m. (ET). The pair will start on the back nine today in groups #38 and #39, respectively.
