Co-Lin golfers have strong showing in NJCAA National Tournament

PLYMOUTH, Ind. - Copiah-Lincoln Community College was represented well in the NJCAA DII National Tournament last week as Lucas Brewer and Bryson Jones finished tied for 53rd and 86th, respectively, in the four-day tournament at Swan Lake Resort. The duo fought through tough weather and course conditions for a strong finish on Friday.

"I am really proud of Lucas and Bryson," said Co-Lin head coach Craig Hennington. "The Indiana weather was a very tough obstacle, bad weather and seven-hour rounds of golf can discourage any golfer, but they both hung in there with a smile. The players and their parents both represented Co-Lin in a great way on the national level."

Brewer shot a 78 on Friday to round out the tournament, his best round of the week as he fired three straight 79s to start the tourney. The 78 brought Brewer's tournament total to 315.

Birdies on No. 5 and No. 11 helped the sophomore shoot the lower score as he posted an impressive one over on the front nine.

"Lucas is a sophomore so this was last collegiate golf experience," said Hennington. "He played with the biggest smile all week long."

Jones rounded out the tournament with a 79 on Friday for a four-day total of 324.

Jones picked up one birdie in the final round on No. 5, but carded six straight pars on the back to close out the impressive round.

"Bryson, who is just a freshman, got some really good experience in this tournament," Hennington said. "We both have high expectations for the national tournament next year."

Leon D'Souza of South Mountain Community College won the individual tournament with a blistering 284 four-day total. The event rounds out the athletic calendar for Co-Lin in 2018-2019.
