Toreld, Guibert qualify for NJCAA District D Championship

TUNICA, Mississippi – The Co-Lin Wolf Pack golf team finished eighth in the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference (MACCC) Golf Championship held at Tunica Golf Club. Due to the threat of inclement weather, the second round was played Monday afternoon.

"We made the turn in really good shape in the first round, but the wheels fell of on their last nine holes," said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. "Our first round was disastrous. We dug such a deep hole, that with a much improved second round, we weren't able to qualify as a team. However, Oscar and Ladner qualified as individuals for the NJCAA District D Tournament at Dancing Rabbit Country Club April 22-24.

Jackson Wise of Mississippi Gulf Coast captured medalist honors with a two-day total of 138.  Freshmen Lander Guibert (San Sebastian, Spain) and Oscar Toreld (Binnerback, Sweden) qualified as individuals off the season average. Guibert led the Wolves with a 152 (76-76) followed by Toreld at 155 (78-77), Jaime Hernandez (Palma De Mallorca, Spain) 163 (85-78), Myles Walters (Laurel) 168 (90-78), and Reese McLaurin (Laurel) 175 (86-89).  

Toreld was named All-MACCC Second Team.

Mississippi Gulf Coast claimed the conference championship with a two-day total of 557. The top six team qualify to play in the NJCAA District D Tournament. East Central finished in second place at 589. Other team scores include Jones College 604, Meridian 607, Northeast Mississippi 617, East Mississippi 627 Southwest 631, Co-Lin 634, Hinds 638, Itawamba 663, and Pearl River 702.
