SENATOBIA- Co-Lin Men's Soccer took to the road to face off against the Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College for their season opener on Wednesday, September 1. Stellar performances from Hardy Lewis (Brandon) and Zach Sorey (Flowood), two freshmen making their Wolves debuts, propelled the team to a 4-2 victory over the Rangers.
Lewis and Sorey had two goals and an assist apiece leading to the season opening win as Lewis started the scoring in the 19th minute by heading the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from Luke Ricci, who picked up an assist on the play, giving the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.
Co-Lin maintained this lead throughout the first half and then doubled their lead early in the second half as Sorey scored his first goal of the match in the 48th minute and then scored again in the 57th minute with an assist from Lewis to give the Wolves a 3-0 lead.
Jesus Villegas scored in the 59th minute for the Rangers cutting the lead down to 3-1; however, the Lewis and Sorey connection struck again in the 65th minute as Lewis scored his second goal of the match, another header, with Sorey picking up the assist on the play making the score 4-1. The final goal of the match came for the Rangers as Peyton Coker scored in the 80th minute giving the final of 4-2 as the Wolves held on to seal the victory.
Goalkeeper Ben Parkinson made six saves on seven shots on goal in just over 78 and a half minutes of playing time, while Joshua Patton closed out the game and made one save on two shots on goal.
Co-Lin is now 1-0 overall on the season and will face off against the Bulldogs of Holmes Community College in a road contest on Tuesday, September 7. The action will kickoff on the pitch at 3 p.m.
