Wolves Finish With A Draw Against Bulldogs

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's soccer team hosted Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday, September 30. The Wolves and Bulldogs played an extra 20 minutes during the match that resulted in a 1-1 draw

The first half ended with no score on the board as neither team was able to take advantage of the scoring opportunities.

The Bulldogs got on the board first with a goal in the 67th minute to break the scoreless tie and take a 1-0 lead. The Wolves then upped the pressure on the Bulldogs for the remainder of the match but could not find the game-tying goal until late in the second half. Freshman forward Cooper Madison (Vicksburg) got a rebound off the Bulldogs keeper and then put the ball in the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 in the 85th minute. The Wolves then had a final scoring opportunity with less than ten seconds left in the match, but the shot was wide of the goal sending the match into overtime.

In the first overtime period, both teams had the same number of shots on goal but the keepers for both teams kept the match even at 1-1. In the second overtime period, the Wolves had more shots than the Bulldogs, but could not find the back of the net with any of the scoring opportunities as the match ended in a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of play.

"I thought that we battled tremendously all game," said Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "I thought that we had the better chances to win the game, but unfortunately we couldn't get across the finish line."

Freshman goalkeeper Leo Summers (Cornwall, England) allowed one goal and had six saves while facing seven shots on goal.

"To get a point against the reigning champions from last year to keep us undefeated was massive for our confidence," added Cosgrave. "We just need to keep improving every game and finishing our scoring chances."

Co-Lin is now 6-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play and will return to action on the road against Holmes on Tuesday, October 4. The action on the pitch between the Wolves and the Bulldogs will kickoff at 3 p.m., at Holmes' Ridgeland campus.
