Wolves Earn Draw Against Wildcats

POPLARVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team returned to action with a road match against Pearl River on Friday, October 21. The Wolves and Wildcats played 110 minutes of soccer and finished with a 1-1 draw.

Neither team could take advantage of the limited scoring opportunities in the first half as both goalies needed just five saves combined to finish the first half scoreless as the horn sounded for halftime.

The second half saw the Wildcats break the scoreless tie as they took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 82nd minute. However, the Wolves responded just a few minutes later as sophomore forward Hardy Lewis (Brandon) beat the Wildcats keeper with a header from a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Will Ballenger (Brandon) to tie the game at 1-1 in the 86th minute. The game ended regulation tied at 1-1 sending the match into overtime.

Neither team scored in either overtime possession as the Wolves had three scoring chances but could not get the winning goal past the Wildcats keeper resulting in the 1-1 draw.

Freshman goalkeeper Leo Summers (Cornwall, England) saved six of seven shots on goal throughout the match.

"The guys came out in the second half after we fixed a few things tactically and started to control the game," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "We had our chances to win it but couldn't quite put them away. This was a physical battle by two solid teams."

Co-Lin is now 9-2-3 overall, 6-1-2 in conference play, and will finish the regular season with a road match at Meridian on Tuesday, October 25. The action on the pitch between the Eagles and the Wolves kicks off at 5:00 p.m., in Meridian.
