WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team resumed MACCC play by hosting Hinds on Tuesday, October 8. The Wolves shutout the No. 13 Eagles handing them their first loss of the season while maintaining a clean sheet with a 2-0 win.
"We were excellent defensively during this game and handled everything that Hinds threw at us very well," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Our defensive back four and goalkeeper were brilliant for the entire 90 minutes."
The first goal of the match came in the 28th minute as Hudson McIntyre (Brandon) beat the Eagles keeper with an assist from Yohan Bedoya (Bogota, Colombia) giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead. The Wolves continued to look for scoring opportunities while stalling out the Eagles attack as the 1-0 lead held throughout the remainder of the first half.
The Eagles then ramped up the pressure and attack on the Wolves keeping the ball on the Wolves side of the field throughout much of the early second half. However, the Wolves strong defense yielded few scoring chances to the Eagles while the patience by the Wolves paid off late in the second half. McIntyre earned a brace for the match with his second goal in the 79th minute with an assist from Alvaro De La Torre (A Coruna, Spain) to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead. The Wolves defense stonewalled any potential scoring chance late by the Eagles to secure the victory.
"Hudson has electric pace and is very dangerous when he's given space to run into," added Cosgrave. "He caused them problems all night and I'm glad that he got two goals to reward all the work he's been doing for others this year."
Co-Lin is now 5-2-2 overall, 2-2-2 in conference play, and will return to action hosting East Central for their final regular season home game on Friday, October 11. Kickoff between the Warriors and the Wolves is set for 3 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson. The Wolves will celebrate Sophomore Day and will honor their sophomore members before the start of the women's match.
