Wolves drop a pair of matches

WESSON, Miss. - The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln fell to Meridian and Mississippi Gulf Coast this week to fall to 1-7 on the season. The team played well and pushed several matches, but ultimately fell just short as Meridian and Gulf Coast both won, 6-3. 

In No. 1 doubles action, Co-Lin's Jordi Morey and Julian Toloza picked up two victories as the team defeated Meridian 8-2 and battled it out with Gulf Coast, 8-6. Against Meridian, John Ready and Drew Hulon teamed at No. 2 and fell to the Eagles, 8-3. In the match with the Bulldogs, Hulon paired up with Skylar Rasberry at No. 2 and lost, 8-1. Co-Lin's Samuel Boutwell and Tyler Leggett played No. 3 doubles versus Meridian, and lost 8-3, while Boutwell and Ready played No. 3 doubles against Gulf Coast. The duo fell, 8-1. 

In singles play, the lineups were identical in both matches with Morey at No. 1, Toloza at No. 2, Rasberry at No. 3, Ready at No. 4 Boutwell at No. 5, and Preston Ivey at No. 6. Morey was undefeated on the week as he blanked Meridian, 6-0, 6-0, before splitting sets with Gulf Coast's Serban Boncluis. Morey hung on in the tiebreaker and defeated him, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Toloza was also 2-0 in singles play as he cruised by Meridian, 6-2, 6-2, and defeated Gulf Coast, 6-4, 6-1. Rasberry fell to Meridian, 6-0, 6-2 and lost to Gulf Coast, 6-0, 6-1, while Ready fell 6-1, 6-2 to Meridian and 6-2, 6-1 to Gulf Coast. Boutwell duked it out with Meridian, but fell, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), before falling to Gulf Coast 6-1, 6-1. Ivy rounded out the singles play with losses to Meridian, 6-3, 6-2, and 6-0, 6-1 to Gulf Coast.

The Wolves are back on the court this Friday, March 6 as Co-Lin plays host to the East Central Community College Warriors at 2 p.m.
