Ward earns MACJC Pitcher of the Week after season openers

JACKSON, Miss. – Copiah-Lincoln Community College freshman Kaytlon Ward started her collegiate career off on the right foot as she earned MACJC Pitcher of the Week honors after the Lady Wolves jumped to a 2-0 start to the 2019 season.

Ward, a freshman from Grant, La., had appearances in both games and did not surrender a single run. In the Lady Wolves' 6-3 win over Spoon River College (IL), Ward came in to close out the game in the bottom of the sixth. She did not give up a hit in those two innings and fanned two Lady Snappers to earn the save. Later that day, Ward threw a complete game shutout against the Lady Eagles of Hinds as Co-Lin rolled to a 6-0 win. During the win, the freshman struck out eight Lady Eagles and gave up just four hits through seven innings.

"I am very grateful to receive this honor," said the right-handed freshman. "I want to give a huge thank you to coach Howard and my teammates for pushing me to do my best…we have all put in hard work since August and now it's all starting to pay off."

The Lady Wolves are back on the diamond this Friday, February 8 as Co-Lin hosts Holmes in Wesson. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
