Lady Wolves sweep BRCC to open 2020

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves started the 2020 campaign on the right foot on Friday with two wins over Baton Rouge Community College. 

There was plenty of action in the opener as the Lady Wolves racked up 12 hits, while the Lady Bears posted 10. The Bears struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Wolves brought big bats in the bottom half with four RBIs from Abigail Carter, Johnna Norman, and April Lynn. The Lady Wolves broke the game wide open in the bottom of the third with homers from Katelyn Hayman, Macy Ziskin, and Marley Poole. The seven-run inning put Co-Lin on top 11-2. BRCC picked up runs in the next three frames, but the Lady Wolves' explosive inning proved too much to overcome. 

Kaytlon Ward got the win in the circle for Co-Lin as she went 5.0 innings surrendering three runs on six hits, but the sophomore fanned seven Lady Bears. Bella Luckey also saw time in the circle with two strikeouts. 

McMillan and Hayman had multiple hits for the Lady Wolves in the season opener, but McMillan led the squad with three hits in three at-bats.

The nightcap saw strong pitching from Co-Lin's Karlie Johnson as the freshman did not allow a run and gave up just two hits in the complete-game performance. The Lady Wolves scored early with an RBI single from Marley Poole in the bottom of the first. Co-Lin added two more runs down the stretch with one in the fourth and another in the fifth on a pair of hits from Carter and Molly Davis. Co-Lin finished the night with five hits. 

Carlon Brabham led the Lady Wolves at the dish in game two with two hits in two at-bats.
