Co-Lin continues win streak by sweeping Miss. Delta

WESSON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves moved their win streak to six over the weekend with the teams' third sweep on the young season. Co-Lin defeated Mississippi Delta 4-1 in game one followed by a run-rule victory in the nightcap, 11-1, after just five innings of play.

The Lady Wolves took game one, a low-scoring contest, behind a pair of home runs and a stellar pitching performance from sophomore Kaytlon Ward. Ward threw a 7-inning one-run performance that saw nine strikeouts and just one walk.

Co-Lin's runs came in the second, third, and sixth inning after Delta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. April Lynn responded with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame. An error in the third grew the lead to 3-1 before Johnna Norman hammered a solo shot to left to grow the Lady Wolves' advantage to 4-1.

Norman led the Lady Wolves at the plate with a pair of hits, while Carly Polk and Macy Ziskin joined Lynn with one hit each.

The nightcap had much more scoring as the Lady Wolves poured in three runs in the bottom of the first followed by four-run frames in the third and fourth.

Ziskin put the Lady Wolves on the board in the first with a double, followed by a two-run homer from Abigail Carter. Carlon Brabham and Carter followed back-to-back walks in the third with a couple of singles to plate runs, while an error and a sac fly from Lynn put in two more.

In the fourth, the Co-Lin pulled away with RBI doubles from Norman and Baileigh Jackson followed by Marley Poole scoring on an error. The Lady Wolves prevented the Lady Trojans from scoring in the top of the fifth to secure the 11-1 run-rule victory.

Karlie Johnson was credited with the victory for Co-Lin as she got the start and went four innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and walking one. Bella Luckey threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Carter led the team at the dish with two hits in two at-bats.
