Lady Wolves Sweep Series Against Hinds

RAYMOND – The Co-Lin Softball team took to the road to continue conference play facing off against Hinds in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 16. The Lady Wolves swept the Lady Eagles taking game one, 4-0, and game two, 14-3.

Game One

The Lady Wolves took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning as Shelbi Maxwell (Wesson) hit a lead-off single, stole second, stole third, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Megan Loyd (Brandon). The Lady Wolves increased their lead to 2-0 with another solo run in the third inning as Faith Kivett (Tallulah, La.) hit a one-out triple and then scored as Maddie Weeks (Clinton) reached on fielder's choice.

The Lady Wolves added another solo run in the third inning to increase the lead to 3-0 as Cera Blanchard (Metairie, La.) advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Maxwell and scored on a double by Josie Meggs (Kosciusko). The final run for the Lady Wolves came in the fourth inning as Belle West (Byram) hit a lead-off single but was forced out on the next at-bat as Madi Miller (Brookhaven) reached on a fielder's choice. Miller then scored on a triple by Kivett making the score 4-0.

The Lady Wolves allowed just one baserunner in the final three innings for the Lady Eagles to seal the 4-0 win.

Faith Kivett and Josie Meggs had multi-hit games getting two hits each while Madi Miller, Cera Blanchard, Shelbi Maxwell, and Belle West had one hit apiece as the Lady Wolves totaled eight hits including two triples for Kivett and one double each for Blanchard and Meggs. Kivett, Maddie Weeks, Meggs, and Megan Loyd had one RBI each.

Cera Blanchard got the start in the circle and improved to 9-0 on the season in the complete game effort. Blanchard allowed one hit with nine strikeouts.

Game Two

The Lady Wolves scored early and often in the second game of the doubleheader including scoring three runs in the top of the first as Madi Miller, Faith Kivett, and Maddie Weeks hit three straight singles to start the game. Miller then scored on a single by Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison), the fourth straight hit for the Lady Wolves, making the score 1-0. Kivett and Weeks scored on a two-RBI single by Cera Blanchard making the score 3-0.

The Lady Wolves increased their lead to 5-0 with a pair of runs in the second inning as Belle West drew a lead-off walk but was forced out as Miller reached on a fielder's choice. Kivett then hit her second single of the game advancing Miller to second while both Miller and Kivett later scored in the inning on a two-RBI single by Wilkinson.

The big inning for the Lady Wolves came in the third as the scored seven as Shelbi Maxwell drew a lead-off walk and then Josie Meggs reached base on a fielder's choice. Maxwell and Meggs then stole third and second base respectively and both runners then scored on a two-RBI double by Lila Blackburn (Red Bay, Ala.) as Blackburn then scored on a double by Belle West making the score 8-0. West then scored on a single by Miller who later advanced to third as Weeks reached on an error. Miller and Weeks both scored on a Wilkinson's second two-RBI single as Wilkinson later scored in the inning on a fielding error making the score 12-0.

The Lady Eagles scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth cutting the lead down to 12-1; however, the Lady Wolves responded with their final two runs in the top of the fifth as Skyler Speights (Monticello) drew a two-out walk and advanced to second as Maggie West (Waynesboro) reached on a fielder's choice. Speights and Maggie West then scored on a two-RBI double by Julianna Frazier (Bogue Chitto) making the score 14-1.

The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth but a groundout with one runner on ended the game securing the 14-3 game two win and sweep of the Lady Eagles for the Lady Wolves.

Madalyn Wilkinson led the Lady Wolves offense in game two going 3-for-3 at the plate while Madi Miller, Faith Kivett, and Cera Blanchard had two hits each. Mary Ansley Chrestman (Cleveland), Maddie Weeks, Malori Cade (Brookhaven), Julianna Frazier, Lila Blackburn, and Belle West had one hit apiece as the Lady Wolves totaled 15 hits including doubles for Frazier, Blackburn, and West. Wilkinson led the Lady Wolves In RBIs with five while Blanchard, Frazier, and Blackburn had two RBIs each with Miller and West adding one RBI apiece.

Belle West got the start in the circle and improved to 9-0 on the season. West pitched four innings allowing one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Alli Albritton (Summit) pitched inning of relief allowing two unearned runs on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.

Co-Lin is now 18-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Lady Wolves return to action hosting East Mississippi in a conference play doubleheader on Saturday, March 19. First pitch between the Lady Lions and the Lady Wolves is scheduled for 2 p.m., in Wesson.
