Lady Wolves Beat Lady Indians in Second Day of MACCC Softball Tournament

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Softball team faced off against Itawamba in a winner's bracket game at Community Bank Park in the second day of the MACCC Softball Tournament. The No. 5 Lady Wolves beat the No.6 Lady Indians, 5-1.

The Lady Wolves loaded the bases in the top of the first but could not push across a run and then the Lady Indians went three-up-and-three-down in the bottom half of the inning.

The Lady Wolves broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the second as Josie Meggs (Kosciusko) drew a lead-off walk, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bela Dekovic (Belle Chasse, La.). Mary Ansley Chrestman (Cleveland) then singled advancing Meggs to third, who then scored on a sacrifice fly by Faith Kivett (Tallulah, La.) after Chrestman stole second making the score, 1-0. Chrestman then scored on an RBI single by Madi Miller (Brookhaven) as Miller advanced to third on the play and then later scored in the inning on a passed ball making the score 3-0.

The Lady Wolves then retired six straight Lady Indians batters to keep the lead at 3-0 and added a solo run in the top of the fourth. Kivett hit a one-out single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Miller, and then scored on an RBI single by Maddie Weeks making the score 4-0.

The Lady Indians then just had two baserunners in the fourth through sixth innings combined both via walks while the Lady Wolves added their final run in the top of the seventh. Belle West (Byram) made a pinch-hit appearance, took one swing of the bat, and crushed an 0-1 pitch to center field for a solo home run (her fifth of the season) making the score 5-0.

The Lady Indians scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead down to 5-1 and looked to add more runs in the inning, but Cera Blanchard (Metairie, La.) ended the game with a strikeout to secure the 5-1 win for the Lady Wolves.

Faith Kivett, Maddie Weeks, and Mary Ansley Chrestman all went 2-for-3 at the plate leading the Lady Wolves offense. Madi Miller and Belle West added one hit each as the Lady Wolves totaled eight hits including one home run for West. Kivett, Miller, Weeks, and West had one RBI each during the game.

Cera Blanchard got the start for the Lady Wolves and improved to 22-4 with the complete game win allowing one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Co-Lin is now 39-7 overall. The Lady Wolves will face off against Jones in a winner's bracket game on Friday, May 6 in the third day of action at the MACCC Softball Tournament. First pitch between the No.5 Lady Wolves and No.4 Lady Bobcats is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., at Gwen Magee Field at Community Bank Park in Ellisville.
