Lady Wolves Stumble Against Jones in Region 23 Tournament

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team returned to action facing off against Jones on the second day of the Region 23 Tournament. The No.4 Bobcats beat the No.5 Lady Wolves, 7-2, putting the Lady Wolves on the brink of elimination going to day three of the Region 23 Tournament.

Neither team scored in the first inning, but the Lady Wolves broke the scoreless tie with one run in the top of the second to take an early 1-0 lead. Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison) hit a leadoff single, advanced to second as Josie Meggs (Kosciusko) drew a walk, and then scored on an RBI-single by Mary Ansley Chrestman (Cleveland) 

The Bobcats then tied the game with one run in the bottom of the second, but the Lady Wolves regained the lead with their second run of the game in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. Maddie Weeks drew a two-out walk, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then scored on an RBI-single by Wilkinson.

The Bobcats then scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth while holding the Lady Wolves scoreless during those innings to take a 7-2 lead. The Lady Wolves were retired in order in the top of the seventh to seal the 7-2 win for Jones.

Madalyn Wilkinson and Mary Ansley Chrestman both went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Wolves offense while Faith Kivett (Tallulah, La.), Madi Miller (Brookhaven), and Josie Meggs had one hit each as the Lady Wolves totaled seven hits.

Cera Blanchard (Metairie, La.) got the start for the Lady Wolves and fell to 25-5 overall pitching four innings and allowing six runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks. Belle West (Byram) pitched two innings of relief allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Co-Lin is now 42-9 overall and will return to action facing off against Northeast in an elimination game to start the third day of the Region 23 Softball Tournament. First pitch between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Tigers is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., on Friday, May 13, in Wesson.
