Lady Wolves Season Ends in Third Day of Region 23 Tournament

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team faced off against Northeast in an elimination game in the third day of the Region 23 Softball Tournament. After weather forced the play of the game to be suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning, the No.5 Lady Wolves fell to the Lady Tigers, 3-2, bringing the 2022 season to an end on Saturday, May 14.

The Lady Tigers scored all three of their runs in the top of the second breaking a scoreless tie in the game. However, the Lady Wolves responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth as Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison) hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Josie Meggs (Kosciusko), and then scored as Mary Ansley Chrestman (Cleveland) reached on an error making the score, 3-1. Chrestman then stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout by Shelbi Maxwell (Wesson). Play was then suspended due to weather.

Upon the resumption of the game, Chrestman scored on an RBI-single by Bela Dekovic (Belle Chasse, La.) making the score, 3-2. The Lady Tigers then loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with one out, but were held scoreless, keeping the score at 3-2. The Lady Wolves were then retired in order in the fifth and sixth innings while the Lady Tigers were held off the board in the sixth and seventh innings keeping the score at 3-2.

The Lady Wolves then got the tying run on second base, but a popout and a groundout ended the inning sealing the 3-2 win for the Lady Tigers and ending the Lady Wolves season.

Madi Miller (Brookhaven), Madalyn Wilkinson, Bela Dekovic, and Cera Blanchard (Metairie, La.) had one hit each as the Lady Wolves totaled four hits during the game.

Cera Blanchard got the start and fell to 25-6 with the complete game loss allowing three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

The Lady Wolves finish the season with a 42-10 overall record.
